KENTUCKY STRAIGHT 100% MALTED RYE WHISKEY FINISHED IN SHERRY CASKS

 

 

We like to think of our 100% Malted Rye Whiskey as malt whiskey first, and a rye whiskey second. Given that malty identity, it seemed natural to give it a sherry cask finish, as often used for malt whiskeys around the world. Handcrafted Spanish oloroso and pedro ximenez sherry casks were judiciously applied. The result is a rather unique whiskey in the pantheon of sherry cask aging. The sherry cask element is forward and deeply pitched, yet beautifully leavened by the piquant garins, which burst into the finish like a sunrise. It takes an already girthy rye and amplifies the body and mouthfeel. In short, our Malted Rye has indeed taken sherry cask aging very well in hand–and arguably proved itself as a malt whiskey of the world.

 

 

 

Tasting Notes

111.9 PROOF (55.95% Alc/Vol)

Nose: Slow development of dark fruits, buttery sherry oak, walnut skin, lifted rye spice above it all with a touch of vanilla; splash of water yields multiple fruit tones.

Palate: Full-bodied and broad; savory, surprisingly dry entry leads to sappy sherry backed with malty grain; well-integrated between sherry oak and grain character; although it’s wickedly friendly straight up, you can add water to emphasize sherry notes, or less water for more rye.

Finish: Late burst of brightening spices (clove, slight menthol, wood spice) with multicolored (blue!) fruit skin.
