Born from friendship and mutual respect between founding distillers Brian Sprance of New Riff and Grant McCracken of Chattanooga Whiskey, The Confluence Project celebrates shared learning, distinct approaches, and the beauty of differences.
Named for the meeting of two rivers, and in this case, two distilleries, The Confluence Project begins with a single mashbill, influenced by each distillery’s philosophy and style of whiskey making.
For the inaugural release, both distilleries set out to make a whiskey neither had made before: a 100% wheated whiskey built on New Riff’s heirloom Red Turkey Wheat and shaped by Chattanooga’s signature High-Malt style.
From mash to barrel, each distilling team applied its unique techniques, philosophies, and traditions, resulting in two collections of single barrels that tell the story of each distillery’s unique approach to whiskey making.
Aged six years and bottled at barrel strength, the New Riff collection showcases a range of proofs from 116.9–122.8.
This release joins New Riff’s High Note series, a home for our limited, one-of-a-kind creations that let us share our most distinctive riffs with the world.

TASTING NOTES
Each Single Barrel in this release delivers its own distinct flavor profile, showcasing the unique character of the barrel it came from. As a collection, this release generally presents a bold and layered experience:
Nose: Clove, cinnamon, caramel, and a warm, woody cereal.
Taste: Rich honey and toffee intertwined with oak.
Finish: Lingering wood spice and cereal sweetness of frosted flakes and a hint of cinnamon.
Before they were distillers, New Riff’s Brian Sprance and Chattanooga Whiskey’s Grant McCracken were brewing colleagues where Brian’s mentorship helped set Grant on the path that would eventually lead him to Chattanooga. What began as professional respect grew into lasting friendship, and years later, into an idea for a whiskey collaboration that celebrates both their creativity and their differences.
Volume 1 marks the first release in an ongoing series of creative expressions between the two distilleries, each exploring new ideas, styles, and custom mashbills in the years ahead.
Founded in 2011, Chattanooga Whiskey challenged the laws and won the right to distill whiskey in Chattanooga for the first time in 100 years. As a result, the Chattanooga Whiskey Experimental Distillery – the only standalone experimental distillery in the country – was born. The distillery now hosts over 50,000 visitors annually and serves as a hub of innovation and creativity to push the boundaries of craft whiskey.
In 2017, the Chattanooga Whiskey Riverfront Distillery opened as the production home of Chattanooga Whiskey’s signature expressions: Chattanooga Whiskey 91, Cask 111, and 99 Rye, as well as their Bottled in Bond Vintage Series, Barrel Finishing Series, and Founder’s Anniversary Blend.
Independently owned and operated, Chattanooga Whiskey is committed to making whiskey that emphasizes quality, complexity, and authenticity through their one-of-a-kind Tennessee High Malt style. Most recently, Chattanooga Whiskey was named Icons of Whisky – Craft Producer of the Year (both America and Global) at Whisky Magazine’s 2023 World Whiskies Awards.
Chattanooga Whiskey will be releasing their collection of single barrels through their experimental series. Bottles can be purchased in person at their bottle shop on release day and online for local pickup. A limited quantity will be available for shipping to select states.
